Discus fish are a large cichlid (perch like freshwater fish). Discus fish originate from the Amazon region. Discus fish live in lakes, smaller rivers and streams where the water is electrolyzed (Acidic). It is recommended to keep the discus fish water at a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. It is also important that you keep the water in the aquarium soft; 0-3dH is recommended their name discus derived from their shape (flat circular).  The discus fish are colorful fish with normally red eyes. The color of the discus fish can be enhanced by what you feed your discus fish, feeding a discus fish brine shrimp will help the discus fish enhance its color. Discus fish are not a very aggressive fish, so due care is needed when putting the discus fish with other fish. Keeping discus fish together is a good idea, they seem to get along with each other.

Heckle Discus fish, also called Pompadour fish. The heckle is a sensitive fish, growing up to 8 inches.
